Stonewards Demo vs Early Access

The demo ended July 11 2026 — what it proved, and what $9.99 Early Access adds on August 11.

Stonewards Demo vs Early Access

Banana Tiger Studio shipped a public Steam demo of Stonewards around early June 2026, iterated through patches up to 0.1.10, then took the demo offline on July 11, 2026 so the team could focus on Early Access on August 11, 2026 at $9.99 USD. Treating the offline demo as if it still exists—or assuming Early Access is a different genre—confuses buyers. This page separates what the demo reliably proved from what the paid Early Access gate is expected to expand, so you can decide whether to buy day one, wait for a fuller build, or rely on trailers and patch notes if you never played the free slice.

Demo Status: Offline Since July 11, 2026

The public demo is no longer available for new installs. Banana Tiger Studio removed it intentionally: maintaining a free branch and a launch branch split engineering time. If your Steam library still shows an old demo entry, treat it as historical—matchmaking and updates for that branch stopped when the offline notice shipped.

For patch history from that window, read Demo Changelog. For purchase timing and the 100,000+ wishlist milestone, see Price and Wishlist and Early Access Launch.

Why the Demo Existed

The demo was a public playtest with marketing benefits: Steam Next Fest visibility, community feedback, and performance data on real hardware. It was never a throwaway vertical slice—hub, forge rings, campfire revive, and Bonus Card votes all landed during the demo cycle. Early Access continues that same spine with more content volume, not a reboot.

Core Loop Parity

Demo and Early Access share the same rhythmic loop:

  1. Defend the bastion during horns.
  2. Vote on post-wave Bonus Cards when the wave clears.
  3. Mine procedural caves during the economy window.
  4. Forge ammo, repairs, rings, and run upgrades at stations.
  5. Protect the King or fail the run.
  6. Return to the hub for meta progression between missions.

If you enjoyed that loop in demo, Early Access is the same game with more maps, bosses, characters, and cosmetics planned across nine to twelve months—not a genre swap. If horns felt tedious then, buying day one rarely fixes fundamental pacing taste.

Content Scope Differences

Demo (public builds through 0.1.10, now offline):

  • Limited mission rotation versus full Early Access targets.
  • Hub with characters, missions, shop, and staging—expanded across mid-demo patches.
  • Stations: Blacksmith (forge levels + four ring choices), Recycling Camp, Crafting Camp, Chest Opener, Wall Repair, Campfire heal and revive.
  • Milestone around wave eleven with endless mode or hub extraction.
  • Co-op version-matching rules and multiplayer stability fixes.

Early Access (store promises and studio estimates):

  • Broader mission and kingdom distress variety.
  • Longer update runway for enemies, forge depth, hub presentation, and cosmetics.
  • Continued balance passes, especially solo tuning from community feedback.
  • Roster growth beyond Miner and Warrior starters.
  • Planned slight price increase at 1.0 relative to the $9.99 Early Access tag—confirm on Steam before assuming lifelong EA pricing.

Hub and Progression

Demo patches made the hub mandatory between runs: character select, mission board, shop, squad staging. Early Access grows that space; it does not remove it. Demo progress may not transfer—assume resets until launch notes confirm cross-save.

Co-op and Solo

Both modes existed in the demo and remain the Early Access design: online co-op for one to four players, demanding solo. Informal three-defend/one-mine splits still describe successful groups. Networking stays online co-op, not local split-screen, on current store marketing.

Forge, Items, and Combat Systems

Demo iterations validated campfire healing and resurrection, ring slot limits, Bonus Cards, scroll loot, and stackable combat upgrades. Early Access continues iteration rather than freezing 0.1.10 stats forever. Wiki Builds, Items, and Combat pages track those systems as patches land.

Purchase Timing After the Demo Ended

You can no longer “practice free” on the official demo after July 11. Decision frames become:

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Stonewards questions.

Is the Stonewards demo still available?

No. Banana Tiger Studio took the public demo offline on July 11, 2026 to focus on Early Access. See [Demo Changelog](/updates/demo-changelog/) for what it included.

Was the demo the full game?

No. It demonstrated the dig–forge–defend loop with limited mission and roster scope compared to planned Early Access growth.

Will demo progress carry to Early Access?

Not guaranteed. Assume possible resets until Banana Tiger Studio confirms cross-save in launch patch notes.

Is co-op the same in demo and Early Access?

Same design intent—online up to four players—but content volume and balance continue to change in patches.

Should solo players buy at launch?

If demo solo felt unfair, wait for post-launch tuning notes. If you never played, watch early reviews and system-requirement reports first.

Where do I read launch pricing and wishlist context?
